The rubber coating acts like a bicycle helmet

The set of 10, 25, and 45 lb. Olympic bore, coated plates measured 10.0, 25.2, and 45.2 lb., but one 45 came with a gash down to the metal and red crumbs in the plastic bag. The grainy surface and crumbs suggest the coating is brittle and friable, and one fall may have been enough to damage it, yet protect a floor--once, like a bike helmet. At $123.75 for the MDF 45lb plate, compare that with the 45 lb. Nike Grind Bumper plate (PGAL-1045) at $125, with softer rubber coating that Nike says has been drop tested "10,000 times," though not clear on what surface. MDF might want to consider another supplier.
